Flea and Tick Season in York Region

Living in York Region means sharing beautiful trails, parks, and countryside with our pets — and unfortunately, with fleas and ticks too. Lyme disease, carried by black-legged ticks, is a real concern in Ontario.

When to use preventatives

We recommend year-round flea and tick prevention for most dogs in our area. Ticks can be active whenever temperatures rise above 4°C, which means they're a threat well beyond summer months.

Choosing the right product

Not all preventatives are created equal. Some products protect against fleas only, while others cover ticks and heartworm as well. We'll recommend options based on:

• Lifestyle (hiking, cottage visits, city walks)
• Any existing health conditions

After outdoor adventures

Check your dog (and yourself!) for ticks after walks in wooded or grassy areas. Prompt removal reduces the risk of disease transmission.
